How to take Care of Our Virgin Hair
-
Brush before bed and before shampooing to ensure there are no natural occurring tangles caused by wind or friction
-
Do not brush wet hair as that is when hair follicles are at their most vulnerable.
-
Use our natural shampoos by The Mane Essential. Sulfate strips hair of natural oils, as there is no direct supply of nutrients from your scalp into the extension strands, its vital that you use a no sulfate shampoo to avoid drying the hair out.
-
To avoid damaging your hair extensions, the cuticles and your scalp, only wash with warm water.
-
Wash the hair gently in a downward motion with your palms, do not scrub or bunch the hair together as this will cause open cuticles to rub against each other causing friction.
-
Rinse between each shampoo, and shampoo only 1-2 times.
-
While wet, add 2-3 drops of natural oil such as our Argan Oil or lite Coconut oil by gently applying it evenly over the hair, these oils will penetrate the cuticles and add moisture to hair extensions.
-
Natural oils do the work of most conditioners without the added chemicals and silicones, natural is always best.
-
Finally, lower the shower head and rinse your hair (not scalp) with cold water, this is known as an Arctic Rinse it will close the cuticles to lock the moisture and nutrients from the oil in, leaving you with nutrient rich hair extensions.
-
Let your hair air-dry at home, take 2-3 hours to wash and naturally dry your hair - Do not use heat as this will swell and dry your strands.
-
Apply a small amount of Argan, Almond or Coconut oil 2-3 times a week or when required. Argan oil is a great finishing oil for styling and frizz, however its a dry oil and does not moisturize. We do offer other oils to moisturize your hair and the extensons.
-
For long lasting hair extensions, moisturise your hair as you do your skin, it makes perfect sense.

Always protect your hair from sun, wind and rain. Exposure to excessive sun, heat, dirt, pollution, etc. adds to our already existent hair woes. These can lead to dirt build up, drying out of hair and scalp, increased susceptibility to infections on the scalp. Cover your hair with an umbrella or a hat. Even your dupatta will do.
Tip 1: Deal Carefully With Wet Hair
Wet hair is very fragile and breaks easily. When wet, the shaft and roots of your hair are more prone to sustaining damage. Don’t be too harsh when shampooing.
Breakage begins there. And also avoid brushing immediately after a shower. If you have to then use a shower cap instead.
Tip 2: Regular Conditioning
Use a moisturizing condition after every shampoo. Never walk out of a shower without it. Missing this step could be the reason why your hair is frizzy.
Tip 3: Condition The Right Way
Conditioning needs to be done right. Conditioners are formulated to seal in the moisture content in the hair shaft. They are not meant for the scalp. Start conditioning about 2 inches away from your scalp. Too much conditioner on the scalp will only make your scalp excessively oily.
